A UFC welterweight contender has got his eyes locked on a title shot but is still yearning for a fight against Nate Diaz.

Vicente Luque is confident that he has earned himself a UFC title shot in the welterweight division. However, he recently revealed he has already communicated to the promotion and his manager his plan to take on Nate Diaz next.

“I’ve talked to my manager, I let him know that I want that [Nate Diaz] fight. The UFC knows that I want that fight.” Luque said during an appearance on Food Truck Diaries. “Apparently, Nate also wants the fight, so it’s up to the UFC now, let’s see if they can make that fight.”

Ahead of the proposed fight, Luque divulged that he’s not taking a fight with Diaz to the ground and will rely on purely on his “right” hand.

“I think that what really makes sense for this fight is that we both have the ingredients to make a fight of the year,” he stressed. “We’re going to go out there, I’m not going to go out there and take him down. (Even) if that can be a good gameplan, I’ll throw that right in the garbage.”

In August, MMA Fighting reported that Diaz is eyeing a December UFC return with “several high-profile options” already available for him.

Diaz is coming off a decision loss to Leon Edwards at UFC 263 in June. Despite losing the five-round battle, many were thrilled after Diaz almost finished Edwards in the dying seconds of the final round.
