Patrick Peterson was one of the top remaining cornerbacks in NFL free agency, but he was taken off the market on Wednesday. According to Adam Schefter, the Minnesota Vikings are bringing back the veteran cornerback on a new one-year deal, giving him another shot in the secondary after a solid season in 2021.

Schefter notes that Peterson had expressed his desire to return to the Vikings via his podcast, and now his wishes have come true as he's latched on with the NFC North squad for another season.

Despite the Vikings moving on from Mike Zimmer, the organization was keen to bring Peterson back for the start of the Kevin O'Connell era. Peterson will serve as a defensive leader in the locker room and will look to make an increased impact on the field after somewhat falling off over the past few seasons. The 31-year-old's production has tailed off over the past three seasons. No longer the perennial Pro Bowler he was during his prime, Peterson is still a solid contributor, and will look to prove that this year with the Vikings.

He featured in 13 games for the Vikings last year, recording 45 tackles, 5 pass defenses, and 1 interception — which he returned 66 yards for a touchdown.

Prior to joining the Vikings last season, Peterson had spent his entire 10-year career with the Arizona Cardinals. As a member of the Cardinals, Peterson made 8 Pro Bowls and was a 3-time First-Team All-Pro selectee. Across his esteemed career, Peterson has recorded 544 tackles, 29 interceptions, 96 pass defenses, and 12 fumble recoveries.
