The Virginia football team didn't have a good 2023 season as they finished the year 3-9 (2-6) and in second-to-last place in the ACC. Despite the struggles, it was clear that the Cavaliers had some talented players on their roster, and a lot of their issues were self inflicted. There were some bright spots on the year as Virginia upset #10 North Carolina on the road, and they also picked up an impressive win against Duke. Still, there is a lot of work to do this offseason, but the Cavaliers instantly got better by adding Chris Tyree from the transfer portal.

College football's transfer portal is now a huge part of the game, and it just opened up this week. It has only been a couple of days since it opened, but there are already over 1,200 players that have entered. One of those players is Notre Dame football wide receiver Chris Tyree, and he announced on Tuesday that will be playing for Virginia football next season. This is a huge pickup for the Cavaliers.

This season for Notre Dame, Tyree finished with 26 receptions for 484 yards and three touchdowns. He had a solid career for the Fighting Irish, and he will be a big addition to the Virginia offense.

The offseason hasn't been going on for very long for Virginia, but it's already off to a great start with the addition of Tyree. This young team is going to have a long time to improve before the 2024 season, and while expectations will be low for this team, they should have the tools to make a decent step forward next year. If you're a fan of the Cavaliers, finding a way to make a bowl game next season would be a major win. We'll see if Virginia finds any other playmakers in the transfer to make that task a bit more manageable.
