The Golden State Warriors could arrange a reunion with the recently traded Andre Iguodala after reports that the Memphis Grizzlies prefer to trade the veteran rather than agree to a buyout.

If they are successful and Iguodala agrees to a buyout with another team, that would circumvent the Zydrunas Ilgauskas rule, which kept him from being able to return to the Warriors for a full calendar year:

Ilgauskas was infamously traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010 and consequently re-signed by the team after he was bought out of his contract, generating a lot of steam among other front offices.

Following that season, the league put the rule in place to avoid players from being used solely as filler salary, knowing the player is interested in returning to the team that just let him go.

However, this reunion taking place would require for the agreement to be mutual, as teams willing to trade for him are likely hoping he'd suit up for them after their troubles.

Unless he is traded to a team willing to absorb salary, other competing franchises like the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets will make their bids for Iguodala as a potential useful acquisition.

Andre Iguodala is likely looking to cash in with the last $17.2 million left on his contract, but if he does agree to a buyout, there isn't much stopping the Warriors from bringing him back under the veteran's minimum, unless they've chosen to fully stock their roster with young players while restructuring this team.
