Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers did an interview with 95.7 The Game on Thursday and gave a behind the scenes look at what he was telling All-Star shooting guard Klay Thompson in the tunnel after Klay tore his left ACL in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

Thompson left the tunnel and went back onto the court to shoot his two free throws. Myers told Thompson not to move after shooting the free throws so they could examine his left leg.

After Thompson made both free throws, he started running back on defense and Myers said, “What are you doing?”

Via Drew Shiller of NBC Sports Bay Area:

“And I grabbed him and I said, ‘Listen, man. If you're gonna shoot these free throws…' — because we didn't know what it was at that time, we had no idea, he hadn't been examined — and I said, ‘We don't know what this is, shoot the free throws, don't move. Just shoot the free throws and stay there.'

“[Klay said] ‘OK, all right. I got it.' [He] shoots the free throws and starts running back (laughter). I said, ‘What are you doing?' Maybe that's my own fault for trusting.

“But that's the competitor in the guy.”

An MRI revealed that Thompson tore his left ACL. The All-Star guard hasn't undergone surgery yet. The Warriors will announce when the surgery is completed.

This story shouldn't surprise anyone. Thompson is one of the toughest players in the NBA. The Warriors are expected to offer Klay a five-year max contract once free agency starts on June 30.
