There has been a lot of speculation on where Kevin Durant will be after this season ends. Durant has the option to become an unrestricted free agent after this year. Golden State Warriors general manager Bob Myers provided some insight into what Durant may be thinking. In an interview with Mercury News,

“He came because he liked what he saw,” Myers said. “He’s enjoyed it. So don’t change anything. It’s worked so far. And it’s too hard to be somebody that you’re not anyway. It just takes too much energy.”

It will be interesting to see how much winning the NBA title will factor into Durant's decision-making. Even if the Warriors do win the championship, there is no assurance that Durant will come back to the Warriors. He can opt to play somewhere where he might get more consideration for individual awards to go together with winning games.

At the end of the day, there might be no other franchise right now that can give him the combination of winning basketball, having fun and business opportunities other than the Warriors. Owner Joe Lacob sums it up in the same interview,

“I have no doubt we have a great organization and a great place to play. We’re going to a new arena next year. I don’t know why anybody wouldn’t want to be a part of it,” Lacob said. “We’ll continue to always treat all our players really well so they always want to be a part of this team whether they’re under contract or not under contract.”

All that said, the allure of playing for the New York Knicks at the Garden or maybe the idea of playing with Lebron James in Los Angeles might just easily sway Durant. One thing everyone can agree on is that Durant will continue to be great this year and the years to come wherever he may be.
