One of the most highly anticipated Summer League rosters in Golden State Warriors history is down a key player.

Second-round pick Ryan Rollins has a stress fracture in his right foot and will re-evaluated at the end of Las Vegas Summer League, the team announced on Wednesday.

Rollins’ injury was discovered by Warriors medical personnel during his on-boarding process in wake of last Thursday’s NBA draft, where Golden State traded up to No. 44 to select him. It doesn’t appear the stress fracture factored into his stock on draft night.

A 6’4 combo guard out of Toledo, Rollins averaged 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game as a sophomore en route to First Team All-MAC honors. His deft handle and unique herky-jerky penetrating style routinely frustrated college defenders, giving Rollins the space to show off his natural touch from all three levels of the floor.

Rollins shot just 31.7% from three during his time at Toledo, an underwhelming mark partially explained by a difficult diet of attempts. He made 46.1% of his two-point jumpers and 80.2% of his free throws last season, impressive numbers that give the Warriors optimism about his long-term potential as a distance shooter.

Without Rollins in Summer League, expect two-way player Quinndary Weatherspoon and promising sophomores Jonathan alumina and Moses Moody to sop additional usage and ball-handling duties for Golden State.

Steve Kerr was a fan of Rollins even before he was drafted by the Warriors.

“I’m more of an observer during the draft. And when we go to The Finals, there’s no time to take part in any of it,” Kerr told Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area. “But I happened to see Ryan Rollins’ workout. I was on the elliptical after practice one day, getting my workout in, and there were six guys on the floor. And he just jumped off the page.”

James Wiseman,  who didn’t play last season after being selected with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2020 draft, won’t participate in the California Classic this weekend but could make his long-awaited return to the floor when the Warriors head to Las Vegas for more extensive Summer League action. Kuminga won't be available for the California Classic, either, as he's back in his native Congo to support his brother's hopes of making the national team.

The Warriors tipoff Summer League action at 7:30 p.m. (PST) on Saturday against the Sacramento Kings.
