Klay Thompson is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2019, and many are questioning whether or not he'll re-sign with the Golden State Warriors. He'll be sought after by many teams who believe he can lead their team. Thompson has long said he hopes to stay with Golden State, something he reiterated Thursday.

“Not really, I just don't really care. It's just how I feel, to be honest. This place is home and I love living in the Bay Area.”

Thompson continually stresses his love for the Bay Area and his desire to remain with the Warriors. But it would obviously make sense for him to test his worth on the open market. He would certainly garner a max contract on the open market, but it's unclear if the Warriors will re-sign him for that money. Kevin Durant is set to become a free agent as well.

These questions will hang over the Warriors all season, but that could actually work in their favor. If the core of the Warriors think a breakup is possible, they will put everything they have into another — possibly final — run at a championship.

There's always the danger of letting potential free agency turn into a distraction, but answers like this from Thompson are not going to be a problem. Everyone knows that things could change next summer. But until then, Thompson and his teammates will make sure the focus is on this year.
