The Golden State Warriors are preparing for a “possibly seismic change” this offseason if-and-when Kevin Durant leaves this summer.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski explained the situation as a guest in Monday's edition of Get Up!

“The [rest of the NBA] are certainly operating under that hope, because it changes the whole team dynamic in the league in team building,” said Wojnarowski. “A lot of teams have been kind of waiting out this Warriors era, but if Kevin Durant leaves this team, it opens the league up to a lot of teams who think they'll start to be able to start competing for championships again.

Even internally in Golden State, there's a sense of ‘let's try to put aside what's happening in July and we have a change to do something very rare in sports — a three-peat — let's try to keep our focus there and win the title and let July play out the way it's going to,' but I think the Warriors are bracing for a possibly seismic change within their organization.”

Durant's departure would certainly scale the Warriors down another notch, and while they could still contend for a title, they wouldn't be the offseason downright favorites like they have been for the past four seasons.

Many expect Durant to bolt for the New York Knicks, a rebuilding team with two max slots that would allow him to pair up with another budding star and make that team his own, unlike what he's experienced in Golden State, living under the shadow of homegrown star Stephen Curry.
