Washington Wizards big man Dwight Howard says that people will eventually forget about the team's disastrous start. Despite the star power that they have on their roster, the Wizards are sitting on a lowly 2-8 win-loss card.

ESPN's Tim MacMahon tweeted out Howard's bold statements about his team's slow start this season.

Dwight Howard: “We’re going to get better. Once we hit our stride, I think people will forget about what happened at the beginning of this Wizards season.”

Indeed, the Wizards could be better than what their record says right now. They have a top 5 backcourt in John Wall and Bradley Beal, plus they have a bevy of excellent versatile forwards like Otto Porter and Kelly Oubre.

But the Washington's defense this season has been paltry at best. They are currently sitting at 29th in opponent points (120.5), 28th in rebounding (39.9), and 27th in 3-point shooting (31%).

Wall is also seeing his assist numbers go down this season. His 7.6 assists average is his lowest in the last five years, and his 29% shooting beyond the arc is just atrocious.

On top of that, there have been clamors for the Wizards to break up their current core. The Wall-Beal partnership is definitely an exciting thing to watch, but the team has not produced solid postseason success during the previous years. Aside from that, Wall is already 28 years old and many believe that if the Wizards plan on trading the 6-foot-4 flashy playmaker, the time is now.

Still, it remains to be seen if the Wizards can turn things around in the nation's capital. If Howard is serious about his words, he needs to focus on improving the team's woeful defense.
