Los Angeles Rams cornerback Marcus Peters has only been in the league for four years, but he has quickly become an upper-echelon player in the league. He has been named to two Pro Bowls, one All-Pro team, and was the 2015 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year.

He is more than just the awards that come his way, so let's break down four things you need to know about the former Washington Huskies standout.

4. Considers Marshawn Lynch a cousin

Marshawn Lynch is eight years older than Peters, but the two grew up together in Oakland and have been close since childhood. Although the two aren't actually related, Lynch has helped mentor him through his childhood and adjusting to the NFL. While at Washington, Peters was asked what the two talk about, and he said he wanted to keep those chats private.

“That’s personal,” Peters said. “We keep it personal. That’s someone who has mentored me throughout my whole life. I look up to him a lot. He’s a great Oakland citizen. But every conversation we’ve had is personal.”

3. Is Proud of Being from Oakland

Peters grew up in Oakland and didn't always have the best childhood, but he is proud of where he is from and is always happy to go back during the offseason.

Peters knew from an early age that he wanted to play football, and do it well enough to help support his family and make them and the city of Oakland proud.

Since coming into the NFL, Peters has always attacked the game like it could be his last game, and he was once asked why he does that. Peter's admitted he wasn't exactly sure, but he knows it has something to do with growing up in Oakland.

“You see it in how [Oakland native and Portland Trail Blazers point guard] Damian Lillard plays basketball or how Marshawn plays football. lt's just something that you know we are from Oakland. We got that look on our face when we play the game. That emotion of just how much we respect what we are doing. It just comes from here (Peters pointed to his heart), because you have to give respect to get it, and Oakland is going to teach you that.”

2. Was a three-star recruit

Peters was a standout at McClymonds High School in Oakland and was a 3-star recruit according to 247 Sports. Most of his offers were from Pac-12 schools and he ultimately decided on the University of Washington.

With the Huskies, he was a standout on the field, but he was suspended during his junior year for a sideline tantrum and ultimately kicked off the team.

He decided to not try to transfer anywhere else and entered the draft instead.

1. Peters is a very private man

Peters isn't afraid to talk on the field, but off the field, he likes to keep his life very private. He does have a son that he posts about often, but who the mother is, is unknown.

He also doesn't like to share many details about his dating life or if he is married. I wouldn't expect him to be more open as the years go on, and that's his right to keep the details private.
