The New York Yankees had a disappointing year last season. This seems to be the theme with the Yankees the past few seasons as they have not had much success come playoff time. The Yankees could win 120 games but if they don't win the World Series it would still be a disappointing season for fans in the Bronx. The front office has some moves to make this offseason and luckily for the Yankees, there's a lot of pieces that can come in and make an immediate impact to win a World Series.

The Yankees severely need to address their shortstop situation and there's no better time to do it than this offseason. This offseason features three elite shortstops in Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, and Marcus Semien. Correa might be the best one out of these three but you can't really go wrong with either decision. If the Yankees don't sign one of these 3 the offseason will be a total failure as the shortstop position needs to be addressed as soon as possible. The Yankees could also use some starting pitching. Kevin Gausman and Robbie Ray would be two great pieces for the Yankees to add.

Let's look at four potential free agent signings that the Yankees can make this offseason to help them get back to contenders.

Four Potential Signing For The Yankees

4. Kevin Gausman

The Yankees could look to add Kevin Gausman. Gausman has done a great job throughout his career and really started to show his true potential last season with the San Francisco Giants. He could be cheaper than Robbie Ray and it could make sense if the Yankees want to add him if they're going to go after one of the three elite shortstops. Gausman is only thirty years old and could help the Yankees for the next few seasons. Last season he was one of the best pitchers in baseball. He finished last season with a 5.4 WAR and went 14-6 with a 2.81 ERA. Gausman is an elite pitcher and adding him to the Yankees staff with Gerrit Cole and some other additions this offseason would definitely boost the Yankees.

3. Carlos Correa

Correa has to be the main priority of the Yankees team. Yes, there have been issues with Yankee fans and the Yankee organization with Correa in the past. Yankees need to forget about what happened five years ago and move on. Correa is clearly an incredible ballplayer and at the end of the day if the player can make your team better you need to bring them in. The Yankees have always been the bad guys and adding Carlos Correa would just add to that stereotype. If he can come in and do what he's done in Houston for the Yankees, fans of New York will forget about what Correa did in a week.

Carlos Correa is a .277 career hitter with 133 home runs he also led the league in WAR this season amongst position players. He's also a gold glove caliber defender. There's no reason for the Yankees not to go after Correa and try to sign him, despite what happened a few years ago.

2. Robbie Ray

Robbie Ray is one of three Cy Young candidates this season. He proved that he's an elite starting pitcher throughout most of his career but really solidified himself as one of the League's best this past season in Toronto. The Yankees need to get some starting pitcher depth and there's no reason to not go after one of the best pitchers in baseball when they're on the market. There are some questions about Ray as he has thrown a lot of innings and he's getting older in his career. If anything was shown this year, it's that he's not on the decline and that he's definitely worth the money for the Yankees. Money has never been an issue for the Yankees so don't expect it to be this offseason when they can add a potential second starter behind Gerrit Cole.

A playoff rotation that features Gerrit Cole and Robbie Ray would instantly be amongst the League's best only behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. Doing this would make the Yankee's instant contenders and they need to think about making this signing.

1. Matt Olson

The Yankees can make a trade with the Oakland Athletics to get Matt Olson. Matt Olson is one of the best first basemen in the league and you can even make an argument that he is the best first baseman in the MLB. Not only is he an elite Defender but he's also one of the best lefty bats in baseball. They desperately need another left-handed bat in their lineup and adding a guy who could potentially hit 50 home runs at Yankee Stadium should always be something that they should go after.

Matt Olson throughout his career has put on some impressive hitting stats and he's done that at one of the least hitter-friendly ballparks in baseball. The Oakland Coliseum is not a fun place to play for hitters. If Olson comes to Yankee Stadium he could arguably be the best hitter in the American League. The Yankees might decide to keep Anthony Rizzo and that's not a bad option, but if they decide to part ways with him then Olson definitely needs to be the guy that comes in to play first base.

Yankees have a lot of moves to make this offseason and don't expect them to just stop at a few guys. They will definitely look at a few bullpen pieces, a few rotation pieces, and maybe even a center fielder. They need to get back to being contenders and the only way to do this is by spending money the way that the Yankees used to. There's a reason why everybody in the world hates the New York Yankees and the front office needs to show them that they're serious and will spend all the money that they possibly can this offseason. It will be interesting to see if the Yankees spend as much as they're saying they're going to.
