Michael Lorenzen was primarily a relief pitcher during his time in Cincinnati with the Reds. He made a number of starts and even played some outfield as well. He always had displayed flashes of being a star but it never came to fruition in Cincinnati. But it appears that it may all be coming together for the 30-year old in Anaheim with the Angels.

Lorenzen is off to a hot start with the Halos and is being utilized as a starting pitcher. Perhaps the stability of being used as a starter along with the fact that Lorenzen was born in Anaheim is bringing the best out of the veteran.

Lorenzen currently holds a 3-1 record with a quality 3.04 ERA on the season. He most recently went 8.1 innings against the White Sox in Chicago and surrendered 3 runs. Lorenzen had an opportunity for a shutout heading into the ninth but surrendered a two-run double. Another earned run charged to Lorenzen came to across to score following his departure from the contest.

Nonetheless, it was a brilliant outing for the right-hander. His strong performance on the mound this season drew praise-filled comments from Angels' superstar Mike Trout.

“He's been unbelievable. It's fun to play behind him. He's throwing strikes, quick innings. He's not fooling around. He gets ground balls and double plays. We have a good defense behind him and he just goes out there and competes.”

If Mike Trout calls you unbelievable, then you truly have been unbelievable. Trout isn't one to just throw praise around. Michael Lorenzen has brought dependability to an Angels' team that previously lacked starting pitching.
