Portland Trail Blazers forward Al-Farouq Aminu tried to set the tone early in Sunday's game against the Dallas Mavericks by throwing down a monster dunk on rookie phenom Luka Doncic.

Aminu caught the ball on the wing with just under four minutes into the game and he appeared to be on a mission to attack the basket.

That caused Doncic to move over to try to help out on defense, but that may not have been the best idea for the Mavs star, as he found himself on the receiving end of a huge slam by Aminu.

That's quite a welcome-to-the-NBA gift from Al-Farouq Aminu to Luka Doncic, and perhaps he won't be getting too many more of those welcoming dunks this season.

As for Aminu, he entered the game averaging 9.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game on the season, and he's struggled to find much of a rhythm in the scoring department in recent games.

Meanwhile, the Blazers came into this matchup at 18-14 on the season and would love to build some momentum before hosting the Utah Jazz on Christmas Day.

Portland has a very important stretch of games coming up, as, after the meeting with the Jazz, Al-Farouq Aminu and company will have back-to-back games against the Golden State Warriors.

Once the new year arrives, the Blazers will hit the road for a matchup with the Sacramento Kings before preparing for a much-needed five-game homestand starting on Jan. 4.

If Aminu keeps delivering these thunderous dunks to opponents, it should bode well for the Blazers moving forward.
