Colin Kaepernick may be having a hard time getting looks from NFL front offices, but when it comes to gaining support, he doesn’t even have to try.

The free agent quarterback has been getting plenty of love from society for his fight for social equality and against police brutality, though his stands seemingly come at the expense of him being shunned away by NFL teams, who have no interest in adding a controversy-magnet to their rosters.

Nevertheless, there are plenty of folks from ordinary citizens to celebrities who encourage and support Kaepernick’s cause. Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry was the among the latest to voice his support for Kaepernick in the form of a social media post. Also recently, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard has given his opinion with regards to Kaepernick, citing the unfair indifference the free agent signal-caller is receiving for merely standing up for what he believes in as featured in a longform piece by Marc J. Spears on The Undefeated.

“It’s almost like they are just telling you not to stand for what you believe in. ‘Do what we say or we got control. You won’t have a job.’ And what he wants to do as a person and who he is as a person, that’s up to him. Now, I think it says more that they’re not willing to give him a job because of what he’s doing. I think that’s the bigger problem,” Lillard said.

Athletes like Kaepernick who take political and social stances have often been chastised for some for dipping their hands outside of sports, but praised by many others as well for sing his voice. But the former San Francisco 49er is making headway in changing the narrative for stereotype jocks as folks who shouldn't be meddling beyond their field of expertise.

Lillard clearly subscribes to the same idea based on what he said to Spears, and it should be expected that more athletes will follow the lead, or at least get behind, Kaepernick moving forward.
