Portland Trail Blazers star CJ McCollum hasn't played since December 4th after being diagnosed with a right lung problem. While he isn't quite ready to return to the floor, the Blazers gave a promising update on the point guard:

Following further examination, including a CT scan on Tuesday, Portland guard CJ McCollum continues to show improvement in his recovery from a pneumothorax (right lung), the team announced today.

McCollum will continue his recovery protocol, which includes light conditioning, and will be reevaluated next week. He will not travel with the Blazers on their upcoming road trip to Memphis and New Orleans.

While it's definitely a traumatic blow to the Blazers that McCollum is sidelined, this isn't the type of injury you want to play around with. The fact that CJ is starting to do some conditioning is certainly a positive sign, though.

Since the 30-year-old went on the shelf, the Blazers have lost four straight. In fact, they haven't won since November 30th against Detroit. McCollum is easily their second-best player besides Damian Lillard, averaging 20.1 points, 4.1 boards, and 4.5 assists on 39% shooting from downtown this season. Portland already lacks legitimate pieces around Dame and with McCollum also unavailable, things are looking grim in RIP City.

Let's hope McCollum can suit up sooner rather than later.
