Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has until Dec. 21 to sign a supermax extension with the franchise.

If he doesn't, the Greek Freak will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2021 and his impending free agency will be the biggest non-COVID storyline of the 2020-21 NBA season.

So far, Antetokounmpo has largely shied away from talking about his contract.

“Right now, I am not focused on that,” Antetokounmpo said, via ESPN’s Malika Andrews. “I am just trying to focus on myself.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo echoed those sentiments in a video he posted on Wednesday. Over footage of him practicing with his teammates, the two-time MVP reiterates his focus on basketball and expresses his love for the city of Milwaukee and the Bucks organization–while remaining decidedly non-committal about the future.

“I think about everything. I think about Milwaukee. I think about my teammates. I think about my family. I think about what's the best decision for me. That's pretty much it. And after that I realize I've gotten so far because I focused on how I can improve every single day,” the Bucks star shared. “You know I love the city of Milwaukee. I love the organization. I love my family to death. I love winning. At the end of the day I wouldn't be in this situation if I wasn't working hard, if I wasn't winning games, if I wasn't improving. Every single day if I didn't have this mentality…I can't change who I am. I cannot change this mentality. And I'm going to focus on improving. And day by day everything is going to take care of itself.”

Milwaukee made an aggressive attempt to persuade Antetokounmpo to sign the extension as soon as the condensed offseason opened. On the first day the trade moratorium was lifted, the Bucks paid a hefty ransom to the New Orleans Pelicans for Jrue Holiday and seemingly acquired wing playmaker Bogdan Bogdanovic in a sign-and-trade with the Sacramento Kings.

However, the Bogdanovic deal fell through (he later signed with the Atlanta Hawks). On ESPN's “The Jump,” Zach Lowe mentioned that the Bucks organization have reined in their confidence about an Antetokounmpo extension since the Bogdanovic mishap.
