The love affair between team head coach Jim Boylen and the Chicago Bulls appear to be heading towards the right path.

The incoming second-year coach did not exactly have the best of seasons with the Bulls last year, ending the campaign on a 17-41 record. Nonetheless, a very productive summer seems to have turned things around, and for his part, Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson believes that Boylen has done a tremendous job for his team.

“I know as well as anyone we’ve got a long way to go,” Paxson said, via Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic. “But Jim has set a foundation that I believe you can build on. And that is key. Because when you don’t have any foundation, you’re just plugging holes and trying to fill gaps. But it feels to me like we’re in a position where we have as solid as a foundation as we’ve had in a long time.”

Bulls superstar Zach LaVine also chimed in on the discussion, as the 24-year-old shared how his own relationship with Boylen has developed during their time together.

“Our relationship has grown greatly,” LaVine said. “I never had a coach come see me and my family (abroad). It was a little weird, but it was cool.

“You have to grow to know somebody,” LaVine added. “You’re not going to be best friends with somebody the first day you meet them. It’s the same with anybody else. You have to learn to trust them through hard times and good times.”

There will certainly be no shortage of hard times for the Bulls this season, with the team still expected to struggle in the East. Nevertheless, with Boylen at the helm, this young side appears to be on the right path.
