Carmelo Anthony re-signed with the Portland Trail Blazers, but he wants to come back wearing number 7, the old number of Brandon Roy.

Carmelo had previously wore number 7 with the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and briefly with the Houston Rockets. However, as mentioned, it was Brandon Roy's number with the Trail Blazers, and the 3-time All-Star guard was a beloved figure in Portland. A lot of Blazers fans want Roy's number to be retired so no one else can wear it.

On the daily Locked On Blazers Podcast, host Mike Richman explains why he thinks that the Trail Blazers should let Carmelo wear #7 and that it doesn't disrespect Brandon Roy's legacy in Portland at all.

Mike Richman: If you think letting Carmelo wear number 7 disrespects Brandon Roy's legacy I respectfully disagree. I believe that the legacy and the wonder of Brandon Roy, the guy who made me love the NBA, is something I hold in my heart. It is represented by that number 7 but the space where I appreciate Brandon Roy is not a jersey number. It is a memory, it is a time, it is an experience that I can't return to but I'm so fond of. Seeing Carmelo Anthony wear that jersey will not diminish it for me. If the team can't figure out whether they want to retire it or not. There is no reasonable explanation for why someone with Carmelo Anthony's legacy shouldn't be allowed to wear it.
