The game between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors on Saturday featured a thrilling duel between Warriors guard Steph Curry and Celtics forward Jayson Tatum. Curry ended up scoring more points, finishing with 47 on the night, but Tatum wasn’t far behind with 44 points and also got a 119-114 win for the Celtics.

Tatum’s incredible night saw him make 16 of 25 shots, including five three-pointers, to go along with 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 40 minutes of play. After the game, he revealed that he had extra motivation to perform well on that night against the Warriors: his son Deuce was there to watch him. And the 23-year-old made it clear that it was all the motivation he needed.

Via the Celtics' Twitter account:

Tatum’s love for his son is no secret and is well-documented, such as when he reunited with him in the NBA Bubble after months of being apart, and Deuce has become a social media star in his own right. The two-time All-Star has also previously spoken about how Deuce is his inspiration to perform well whenever the Celtics play at the TD Garden. Just a couple of weeks ago, after dropping a career-high 53 points in a 146-136 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Tatum said that he needed to do it again because his three-year-old son wasn’t there.

The former Duke Blue Devil is putting up career numbers this season, averaging 26 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 steals while shooting 46.2% from the field and 38.8% from beyond the arc. But if Deuce will continue showing up for the Celtics’ home games, then Tatum will likely improve on these numbers even more so that his son sees him playing at his best.
