A few weeks ago, Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving reportedly called former teammate LeBron James to apologize for his actions that ended their dynasty with the Cleveland Cavaliers. James, who is currently playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, is said to have accepted Irving's apology, leading to speculation that the two might consider teaming up again next summer.

Irving and James seem to be on good terms following their phone conversation. Kyrie will be a free agent after this season, and if he does decide to walk away from Boston, the Lakers have become a likely destination for the All-Star guard.

However, according to the Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach, a source close to the Celtics said that the possibility of an Irving-James reunion with the Lakers is highly unlikely.

The source added that Irving could change his mind before July 1, but added that if he does, it almost certainly would not be to reunite with LeBron James, calling that notion “a joke.”

Irving has publicly said that if the Celtics wanted him, he'd gladly stay with the franchise. However, his growing frustrations this season could eventually lead to his change of heart. He recently called out the younger members of the Celtics, saying they don't know how to play championship basketball.

The Lakers are going to be major players in this year's free agency as they have enough cap room to sign someone like Irving to a max deal. In addition, they are currently involved in trade discussions with the New Orleans Pelicans, hoping to acquire All-Star forward Anthony Davis before the trade deadline next week.
