Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn is fully aware of what his current quarterback situation is heading into the 2018 NFL Draft. Although longtime Chargers starting quarterback Philip Rivers had a very good season last year for Los Angeles, Lynn and the front office have to start planning for the future at some point.

According to a press release on the Chargers' official team website on Thursday, coach Lynn opened up a bit about the team's long-term plan at the quarterback position.

“I plan on being here for the long haul. If I can get my future quarterback right now, why wouldn’t I? I’m just looking at the big picture here. We’re trying to get better at every spot. And, you never know what position is going to step up and help you win,”coach Lynn said Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine.

However, coach Lynn seems to have all the confidence in the world right now in Rivers, stating that he expects the quarterback to play at a high level well into his 40's.

Chargers general manager Tom Telesco echoed coach Lynn's words about Rivers but says the team is going to put the necessary focus towards the future at the quarterback position.

“There’s been an emphasis every year, certainly since I got to the Chargers,” Telesco said. “You never know when that opportunity is going to be there for that next quarterback, and we’re in a great position because Philip is playing so well right now, and we feel really good about him. But we’re also realistic to know that we have some work to do to plan for the future.”

Will the Chargers actually spend a high or mid-round pick this year on a quarterback? There is certainly plenty of talent available at the position in this year's draft class. But luckily for them, the quarterback position isn't quite as pressing a situation compared to other teams. They still have some time to decide how they plan to deal with Rivers' eventual succession.
