New Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Chris Harris Jr. is on a different team, but staying in the same division. The former longtime Denver Broncos defensive back has strong words predicting the Chargers taking over the AFC West.

Per NFL Network via Chargers Wire:

“It’s always tough when you play the Chiefs, but I know we’ve got a defense that definitely should be in the top and you’ve got to be able to slow them down,” Harris said.

“I know we’ve got offensive guys with Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, (Austin) Ekeler, Hunter Henry, so I know we’ve got talent on offense, and we’ll figure out what we’re gonna do that way.

“But I know (with) defense, we’ve got definitely a chance to win the AFC West.”

Setting aside what could be an enhanced rivalry between Harris' teams, Chargers and Broncos, the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback also has to contend with the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs cut through opposing defenses led by 2018 NFL MVP quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The 30-year-old Harris, who was nearly dealt mid-season last year, signed with the Chargers after nine years with the Broncos. Denver initially signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2011 out of Kansas. Harris went on to win Super Bowl 50 in 2015 with the Broncos.

Harris is staking his claim that the Chargers can be competitive in the division based on the team's defense, too. Last season, L.A. gave up the fifth-fewest passing yards to opponents and finished middle of the pack in rushing yards allowed.
