While the Los Angeles Chargers have been terrific overall this year, one area where they need some help is in their secondary, particularly at cornerback.
That's why Bleacher Report writer Maurice Moton feels that the Chargers should pursue Green Bay Packers cornerback Bashaud Breeland in free agency.
Breeland has played in only six games with the Packers this season after signing a one-year deal in September after failing a physical with the Carolina Panthers. He registered 18 tackles, two interceptions, a fumble recovery, a defensive touchdown, and four passes defended.
The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Clemson University, was originally selected by the Washington Redskins in the fourth round (112th pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.
He played in all 16 games during his rookie campaign, finishing with 69 tackles, two picks, a couple of forced fumble, and 14 passes defended. He maintained a similar level of production throughout his four-year stint with the Redskins which led to a three-year, $24 million deal with the Panthers in March 2018.
However, an odd situation led to Breeland failing his physical, as he sustained a cut in the Dominican Republic which later became infected, leading to Carolina voiding his contract.
That was when Green Bay signed the Allendale, S.C. native.
The Chargers suffered a tough loss to the Baltimore Ravens last Saturday, missing an opportunity to jump into first place in the AFC West. While they have already clinched a playoff spot, they will have one more chance to nab the AFC West division title this weekend when they take on the Denver Broncos. In order to win the division, they will need to beat the Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs will need to lose to the Oakland Raiders.
