The Kansas City Chiefs managed to secure a close win against the Baltimore Ravens to maintain their perfect start to the 2019 NFL season. Head coach Andy Reid feels running back LeSean McCoy played an integral role in the win.

Despite dealing with a sore right ankle in Week 3, McCoy still managed to serve as the workhorse in the Chiefs' backfield. According to Nate Taylor of The Athletic, Reid praised the veteran for his toughness:

“That's a veteran player working through something. You have to have a certain mindset,” Reid said of McCoy.

There is certainly plenty of truth to Reid's comments. The running back position is undoubtedly the most grueling in the NFL. Regardless, it is safe to say that McCoy has become accustomed to churning out gutsy performances throughout his career.

Starting running back Damien Williams was ruled out against the Ravens due to a knee injury. Fortunately, the Chiefs' decision to bring McCoy aboard heading into the regular season has clearly started to pay off already. The shifty scatback is clearly a seamless fit in this high-powered offense thanks to his versatile skill set as both a runner and receiver.

McCoy's prowess was on full display versus Baltimore after rushing for 54 yards and a touchdown on eight carries to go with three receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown. The fact that he did it on a hobbled ankle makes it even more impressive.

It will be interesting to see how the dynamic in the backfield shifts once Williams makes his return.
