Patrick Mahomes' Texas Tech roots are unbreakable. Even as he's already one of the NFL's brightest stars, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has always shown support for his alma mater. He's gone so far as to support his alma mater's other sports other than football.

So when Texas Tech's baseball team improbably stole home in extra innings to win against their rivals Texas, Patrick Mahomes was hyped up. Just look at this play, and tell me you wouldn't get excited as well.

Setting aside the Chiefs star's reactionā€¦ what is going on with that play? Stealing home is ridiculously hard, near-impossible even. And yet, Kurt Wilson of Texas Tech made it look so easy? The Texas closer seemed to fall asleep at the wheel, and once he realized his error, Wilson was already on base. That's a crazy finish to a tense game.

Mahomes would know a little something about baseball as well. The Chiefs star's dad was one of the better pitchers in his era. Mahomes himself was a rising baseball star prior to joining the NFL, which brought around questions on what sport he'd choose. He'd eventually pick football over a baseball career, which worked out in his favor.

The Chiefs are now looking to get back to the Super Bowl after getting bested by the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game. It's going to be a lot tougher for Mahomes, though: all of their AFC West rivals have reloaded in some form. KC also lost one of their best stars in Tyreek Hill recently after trading him to the Dolphins, which is going to be tough.
