Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has now managed to add a Super Bowl ring and more MVP honors to his decorated trophy case. Regardless, he is still taking a backseat to Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Mahomes has solidified his case as the next face of the NFL after defeating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. According to Will Brinson of CBS Sports, he still feels that honor goes to Jackson:

Patrick Mahomes is asked if he's the face of the NFL, defers and points to Lamar Jackson winning the MVP.

This is certainly some heavy praise coming from Mahomes considering he has already achieved the pinnacle of success in his profession. It just goes to show the sense of mutual respect tat exists between these two young superstars.

Jackson is coming off a historic outing in the 2019 NFL season after establishing himself as the league's premier dual-threat under center. The Ravens were the hottest team in the league during the regular season and he was named a unanimous MVP for his efforts in the process.

This is a feat that not even Mahomes was able to accomplish when he was named MVP in his first full season as a starter. Regardless, he still managed to follow it up by getting the Chiefs over the hump and putting the exclamation point on a spectacular year with a comeback victory against the 49ers.

There will continue to be debate about which of these two quarterbacks. Regardless of whether or not the masses agree with Mahomes, there is no question that he and Jackson have started a new friendly rivalry similar to that of the one between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning during the prime of their careers.
