After the L.A. Clippers and Houston Rockets had a contentious post-game incident, Blake Griffin posted a Joker GIF on Twitter showing the Clown Prince of Crime walking away from an explosion.

The image is from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, the critically acclaimed superhero movie that won Heath Ledger a posthumous Best Supporting Actor Award. Ledger played the part of the Joker, who had a number of popular scenes in the film including the GIF that Griffin posted.

Many are speculating that this was a shot at Chris Paul and other Rockets players who were retreating from the Clippers’ locker room. Others, like Sean Highkin of Rockets Wire, suggest this was Griffin saying, “Why so serious?” — one of the Joker’s most famous lines in the aforementioned movie.

In an interview, the Clippers star was asked what the Joker tweet meant.

“Oh man, I was watching The Dark Knight and that’s one of my favorite scenes, so I just wanted to show appreciation for that scene,” Griffin says.

Griffin is clearly toying with the media as evidenced by the laughter you can hear behind the scenes.

The image is definitely a reference to the Rockets players who were looking to confront the 6-foot-10 power forward and his teammate Austin Rivers.

As to what Griffin is implying with the image, it’s one that will be entirely left to our imagination, apparently.

But as soon as the league decides to roll out its decision that will include punishments such as suspensions and fines, we’ll see who will be laughing in the end.
