The Indianapolis Colts narrowly missed out on the playoffs with a 11-5 record. They were on the cusp of the playoffs, but were missing a little bit of talent to put them over the edge. In the off-season the Colts attempted to fix these issues and did a solid job.

The biggest move for the Colts was bringing in quarterback Carson Wentz in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. With Phillip Rivers retiring the Colts needed someone that could come in and keep them competitive. Wentz fills that spot well as he has shown his ability to lead a team when talent is around him. Although he may not be one of the top quarterbacks in the league, Wentz can provide the Colts with solid play that fits well around the rest of the talented group.

While Indy made some moves in the off-season they made a couple questionable picks in the draft. Here are 2 mistakes made by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2021 NFL Draft.

2. Tight end Kylen Granson

In the fourth round the Colts took tight end Kylen Granson. Granson projects to be a solid scheme fit but it was a reach off a pick. With a more polished and talent tight end on the board at this time in Brevin Jordan, this pick was a surprise. Granson struggles heavily as a blocker which will make him a specialist type player for the Colts.

He also lacks physicality and struggles to gain separation from whoever is covering him. The Colts were also lacking depth at offensive tackle and they could have taken one in this spot instead of Granson.

Granson has a chance to make an impact as a specialist but don't expect him to transform the offense.

1. Quarterback Sam Ehlingher

With Indy's sixth round selection they took quarterback San Ehlingher. Ehlingher was not a horrible selection but they could have drafted players at positions of need at this spot. While Ehlingher could be a solid backup quarterback the Colts could have taken an offensive lineman for depth which was desperately needed.

Nonetheless the Colts took Ehlingher who projects to be a mobile backup quarterback. He is a mobile guy that runs and plays very tough. Although he is mobile he is not a very accurate quarterback which will make it tough for him to see a lot of time on the field. His average arm talent won't scare any defense and he lacks velocity on his throws.

Ehlingher at best will be a backup quarterback for the Colts.

While the Colts made a few questionable picks in the draft the overall off-season was good. The roster was improved and the Colts look ready to make it to the playoffs in 2021. The Colts roster is filled with young talent that could breakout even more this season. Even though the Colts aren't thought of as a contender they very well could be this season.

The AFC will be tough to get out of with teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills but the Colts have enough talent to get it done. If Wentz is able to get back to the way he played back in 2017 when he was in contention for MVP before getting hurt then the Colts will be a scary team to go up against.

Look for Indy to make a playoff run and potentially make it to the Super Bowl.
