Hold your horses: Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott now sounds like he may not be ready to play in the team's Week 8 matchup vs. the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday Night Football.

Prescott is nursing the calf strain he suffered on the final play of Dallas' overtime win vs. the New England Patriots in Week 6 — a walk-off touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb. The Cowboys had a bye in Week 7, and the team was optimistic Prescott could return for Week 8.

On Wednesday, Lamb provided an encouraging outlook after seeing Prescott work at practice. He put the chances of Prescott returning to face the Vikings at “90 percent.”

“He looks great in and out of his drops,” Lamb said. “I don’t know the restrictions on him or what’s going on, but, to me, he looks perfectly fine.”

Not so fast.

Watson addressed the media at Cowboys practice on Thursday. According to Calvin Watkins of Dallas News, the star QB was noncommittal about playing on Sunday night.

Prescott said that while he was doing “everything I can” to be ready to go, the call will ultimately lie with head coach Mike McCarthy and the team's athletic trainers, Jim Maurer and Britt Brown. Prescott added that he's been participating in walkthrough practices and would “without question” play if it was a playoff game.

Dallas is 5-1 with a comfortable lead in the NFC East, as the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Football Team all sit at 2-5. That could certainly factor in the team's decision to be extra-cautious with their franchise quarterback.

Prescott had 16 touchdowns against four interceptions in 2020 with a 115.0 passer rating.
