The saga between the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott has come to an end with the Cowboys making Prescott one of the highest-paid players in NFL history. Following Monday's positive news of a deal being struck, Prescott has set multiple NFL records with his new contract, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The entire contract for Dak Prescott is worth up to a total of $164 million over four years, including a whopping $126 million guaranteed. His $126 million in guarantees is the largest in NFL history, according to Schefter.

Also, Dak Prescott was given $66 million upfront to sign the deal and he will garner an eye-popping $75 million in the first year of his new contract. Both are NFL records as Prescott finally lands the multi-year deal he's deserved in recent seasons.

Before the 2019 season, the Cowboys had their first opportunity to sign Dak Prescott to a long-term deal, before guys like Carson Wentz and Jared Goff were paid by their respective teams. Instead, Dallas continued to neglect the idea of giving Prescott the deal he desired as they continued to sign other members of the roster.

While betting on himself, Dak Prescott entered the 2020 season under the franchise tag. Sadly, he would suffer a season-ending ankle injury that would cause him to miss 11 games. Despite his devastating injury, the Cowboys realized that they had made a mistake by not signing their surefire franchise quarterback sooner.

Ever since Dak Prescott was a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, he's done nothing but show consistency under center in Dallas.

Fast forward to now and it's safe to say that Dak Prescott made the right decision to bet on himself as he smashes NFL records with his latest contract. This was a long and drawn-out process in Dallas, but it's hard if not impossible to say that the wait was entirely worth it for the Cowboys' franchise quarterback.
