The Dallas Cowboys finished the season on a bittersweet note as they finish another mediocre season with a solid triumph over the Washington Redskins. To make things a little better Dak Prescott had close to a historic season as he had a high passing yards tally for the season that almost eclipsed Tony Romo.

Thanks to his 303-yard outing against the Redskins, putting his season tally to an impressive 4,902 yards. Unfortunately for him, even his monstrous season wasn't enough to put him past Romo's record of 4,903 yards. Yes, he was one yard short of the franchise record.

Pro Football Talk's Charean Williams asked Prescott about his thoughts on missing out the record by a single yard. He said that he was aware that he was close to completing the record and tried making the record on the final day of the season.

“I didn’t know that until I pretty much figured out that the Eagles had won,” Prescott said. “So I got all of that together at once. But I didn’t make the playoffs and I deserve to be second. As I’ve said, I don’t play the game for stats. I play the game to win. So I’m OK with being there, being one yard short of him. It’s fine.”

This has been the most productive the Cowboys quarterback has been this season. To add to his 4902 passing yards, he has a career-best 30 touchdowns to his name. Unfortunately for him, he was unable to carry the Cowboys to the playoffs. If he keeps this level of production this season, there's no reason why he shouldn't be able to make the record his own.
