Dak Prescott has received unfair criticism since he entered the league with the Dallas Cowboys in 2016. After the Cowboys made Prescott one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL on Sunday, Jerry Jones claims that he wouldn't be able to handle the scrutiny from the media like Prescott does.

“I'd kill somebody if they put me through what guys go through in the draft when they look at their backgrounds & check every neighbor, every friend they ever had,” Jones told reporters at a press conference Wednesday, via The Athletic's Jon Machota. “I'd shoot somebody if they did that (to) me. Dak gets that kind of scrutiny.”

Prescott was a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and there weren't high expectations from many people on the Mississippi State product. However, Prescott quickly proved that he was a franchise quarterback as he threw for 23 touchdowns and four interceptions in his rookie campaign.

If you were to go back and redraft the 2016 NFL Draft, Prescott would now be the consensus No. 1 overall pick. Despite the consistency he's shown under center, some fans and analysts continue to question the talent of Prescott. It's fair to question whether or not Prescott would receive the criticism he does if he played for a team that isn't the Cowboys.

Following a season-ending injury in 2020, Dallas showed their commitment to Prescott by recently agreeing to a four-year deal that is worth up to $164 million with the gifted signal-caller. Besides getting the second-most in annual salary, Prescott is going to receive a record-breaking $75 million in his first year of the contract.

Regardless of how he performs on the field, Prescott has gotten an endless amount of hate from a large group of people. With that in mind, Jones doesn't understand how Prescott puts up with the criticism without resorting to violence, which is interesting to hear from the billionaire Cowboys owner.
