Even in a season where he has met expectations with the Alabama Crimson Tide, sophomore quarterback Bryce Young still sees several areas for improvement with his play as a passer.

In a campaign where no clear-cut frontrunner for the 2021 Heisman Trophy award has emerged, Young still continues to bolster his resume for this coveted honor. He ranks in the top 10 in all the FBS in completion percentage (70.0 percent), passing yards (2,453) and passing touchdowns (24).

As Young heads into his first career start against LSU, he believes that there is still much that he can polish on as a quarterback, which includes his decision-making on the field and sheer communication with his teammates.

“I think there’s a lot of stuff I can improve on,” Young said during a press conference ahead of the LSU matchup. “This is a good opportunity for me to do some self-evaluation, just do some evaluations as a unit, talking to the coaches about what we feel like we need to improve on as a unit and what I have to improve on individually.

“I think my decision-making, just us being on the same page and us communicating, whether that be with protections or whether that be with routes and signals, blocks to the receivers, whatever it is. Making sure that I’m more clear with everyone and making sure that we’re all on the same page and we’re trying to eliminate pre-snap penalties and mental errors, and a lot of that stems from me.”

One can point to Young's recent first quarter showings against Texas A&M and Tennessee to note that his overall decision-making and communication when running the offense surely are both still a work in progress for him.

Young will look to lead Alabama to an 8-1 record with a possible win over LSU on Saturday.
