The starting pitchers for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game were announced on Monday. For the AL, Tampa Bay Rays ace Shane McClanahan is expected to get the start. And for the NL, Los Angeles Dodgers legend Clayton Kershaw is expected be the starting pitcher, per MLB insider Jon Heyman.

Kershaw getting the nod is a bit surprising given the fact that he hasn't even been the best pitcher on his own team in 2022. Tony Gonsolin has pitched to the tune of a 2.02 ERA and 0.84 WHIP to go along with 86 strikeouts and an 11-0 record. Kershaw owns a 2.13 ERA and 0.91 WHIP with 75 K's and a 7-2 record.

However, Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins was projected to start by many. The right-hander has a 1.76 ERA 0.90 WHIP with a whopping 123 strikeouts. His 1.76 ERA and 138.1 innings pitched lead the league.

With that being said, the decision to roll with Clayton Kershaw isn't completely shocking. The left-hander is a future Hall of Famer who will go down as one of the best Dodgers' pitchers of all-time. So both Sandy Alcantara and Tony Gonsolin likely support the decision to have Kershaw start the 2022 MLB All-Star Game.

Shane McClanahan was the clear starting option for the AL. The second-year left-hander leads the Junior Circuit in ERA with a mark of 1.71 and WHIP with a ridiculous 0.80 mark. He also has 147 strikeouts compared to just 19 walks.

In summary, there will be no shortage of star-studded pitching in the All-Star game. But the Dodgers' faithful will be overjoyed to see Clayton Kershaw getting the start for the NL.
