The Dodgers recently received a couple of positive updates on injured left-handed pitchers Clayton Kershaw and Andrew Heaney.

Heaney was the talk of MLB early in the season after not surrendering a run over his first couple of starts. He had always shown signs of potential but was never able to put the pieces all together. Dodgers fans were hopeful that Heaney was on the verge of a breakout season.

But he injured his shoulder and has been out since April. But he recently pitched live at-bats against minor leaguers in the Dodgers farm system and fired 2 quality innings.

Andrew Heaney commented on the state of his shoulder injury after the solid effort.

“Knock on wood, I don’t feel anything. I’m definitely getting back to executing pitches and doing what I was doing. I’m not thinking about how it feels or anything like that.”

Clayton Kershaw hasn't pitched since early May. His back injury seemingly came out of nowhere after being scratched from a mid-May start. The future Hall of Famer was enjoying a terrific season for the Dodgers prior to the injury.

But Kershaw threw a 38-pitch bullpen session and looked “outstanding” according to Manager Dave Roberts. Kershaw is on track for a rehab assignment soon barring any unforeseen setbacks.

If all goes according to plan, it wouldn't be surprising to see both Kershaw and Heaney return within the next couple of weeks. The already solid Dodgers rotation will become even more dangerous with the impending return of these two left-handed starters.
