Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson made a big decision deep into Sunday's contest against the Green Bay Packers, as he yanked starting quarterback Carson Wentz in the fourth period to replace him with rookie Jalen Hurts. The Eagles still ended up on the losing end, 30-16, but for his part, Hurts provided a bit of a spark off the bench for the Eagles.

After the game, coach Pederson was asked about his decision to pull out Wentz during a crucial juncture in the match, and the 52-year-old coach had this to say:

“We needed a spark in this game to try to get some things going,” Pederson said, via NFL.com. “I've got to get through injuries, I've got to through the tape. There's a lot of things I'm going to consider and evaluate before anything's decided. But, look, opportunity arose and like I said we just needed that opportunity to get us back in the football game — today. And we came up short.”

Pederson also touched on Hurts potentially taking over the starting gig over an out of form Wentz, but at this point, the Eagles shot-caller does not appear to be prepared to turn over the reins of the offense to the 22-year-old rookie.

Wentz has been struggling of late, and there have been calls for his benching. Whispers have also emerged about the Pro Bowler's confidence level being adversely affected by the arrival of Hurts in the spring — something that Wentz himself has denied.

Philadelphia have just suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, and are now 3-8-1 on the season. Changes seem to be inevitable, and at this point, there is reason to believe that Wentz's current job security may be at risk.
