The Philadelphia Eagles are in need of a running back after starter Jay Ajayi went down with a season-ending torn ACL. As a result, they’ve apparently asked the Buffalo Bills about the availability of former Eagles star LeSean McCoy.

Per Josh Reed of WIVB Sports:

The Eagles have reached out to the Bills about a possible trade for LeSean McCoy, per source. Philly just lost RB Jay Ajayi for the season due to a torn ACL. McCoy spent the first 6 seasons of his career with the Eagles and is the franchise all-time leading rusher.

The Eagles had previously been linked with a trade for another All-Pro running back in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Le’Veon Bell. However, a recent report indicates that they are not planning to pursue a trade for the Steelers’ disgruntled star.

It would make sense for both sides if the Bills finally moved on from McCoy. They are clearly in rebuilding mode with rookie Josh Allen taking over at quarterback, and they could use the extra draft capital to fill with young players who can grow together with him.

McCoy has not had a significant workload in Buffalo this season, carrying the ball just 45 times for 170 yards with no touchdowns through four games. However, he did get a spike in touches in their win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. He finished with 85 yards on 24 carries.

With Ajayi gone, the Eagles are left with Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwood, Darren Sproles, and Josh Adams as their options in the backfield.
