NFL training camp is underway and it's been an interesting start to the season for the New York Giants. They've had camp brawls, numerous injury reports, coaches running laps, and now Jason Garrett is demanding the media to call him “coach.” According to Pat Leonard, Garrett immediately told reporters to refer to him as “coach” after they greeted him, stating, “good to see you in person, Jason.”

Just an uncomfortable and unnecessary way to kick off a press conference. It doesn't really make sense as to why Jason Garrett believes the media should call him “coach”, as he isn't their coach. Maybe he hates his first name? Maybe he wants to hear as many people refer to him as “coach” to boost his ego? No one really knows, but it clearly set a tone for the press conference on Thursday.

The New York Giants are set to compete for a playoff spot this year, as they play in a wide-open NFC East division. However, the Giants might have to temper expectations with how things are going in training camp. It's been a frustrating time for the Giants right now, so that could have boiled over into Jason Garrett's meeting with the media.

With uncertainty surrounding Saquon Barkley, and Kenny Golladay dealing with a hamstring injury again, the Giants could be in for a slow start to the season. Not to mention, Jason Garrett doesn't really have the best track record as a coach either. During his time as the head coach for the Dallas Cowboys, the franchise underachieved quite often. Now, as the offensive coordinator for the Giants, he doesn't have the pressure of being a head coach, but, still has to produce an NFL-level offense.

We'll see how the Giants' season goes as it's still too early to give any real predictions. The front office made some big moves in the offseason and the franchise is hopeful it pays off.
