Trae Young is in his first NBA season with the Atlanta Hawks after being picked with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. Coming out of college, Young was one of the most hyped players in recent history. His ability to knock down long 3-point shots and handle the ball well drew some comparisons to Golden State Warriors superstar point guard Stephen Curry.

While he has gotten off to a bit of an inconsistent start, there is still a lot of belief that he will be a star in the future. Curry has shown that small guards can succeed because of their ability to dribble and shoot the ball at a high level.

Young opened up about his thoughts on how Curry has changed the entire NBA with the game he has in an interview shared by Tom Haberstroh at NBC Sports.

“Steph has changed the whole league, period. I think it’s a perfect time for a guy like me who’s not the biggest guard in the world but can shoot the ball. He’s made it OK for teams to go out and get those type of guys and play them.”

Throughout the NBA Draft process, there were quite a few people who criticized Young for his size. Despite all of the critics he has, Young is confident he can become the player Atlanta needs him to be.

Standing in at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, Young is very comparable in size to the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Curry. They have a very similar game as well, although Young has a long way to go before he reaches Curry's level.

In the first 11 games he has played for the Hawks this season, Young has averaged 18.6 points to go along with 8.1 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game. He has shot 42.3 percent from the field overall and knocked down 27.1 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Atlanta is hoping Young can get his 3-point shot going this season. He isn't shooting it as well as he is used to, but adjusting to the NBA is a process.

Expect to see Young pick things up as the season moves along. He has big potential, and his game should be able to translate well once he gets used to playing against NBA talent.
