Atlanta Hawks second-year point guard Trae Young left the second quarter of his team's road matchup with the Miami Heat on Tuesday with an apparent ankle injury.

Early in the second period, the former fifth-overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft stepped on Justise Winslow's foot while making a move to the basket.  Young then fell to the ground holding his ankle, with videos showing he tweaked it.

The 21-year-old Young, last season's Rookie of the Year runner-up, needed assistance getting up and off the court. He was carried by two Hawks officials on either side of him. It was clear he was unable to place his foot on the ground, keeping it in the air while limping to the locker room to be examined.

Young has been ruled out for the rest of the game.

Young's ankle injury in Atlanta's matchup with Miami comes when four-time All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler is making his Heat debut on Tuesday evening. Butler, who was acquired in a sign-and-trade with the Philadelphia 76ers in the offseason by Miami, scored 12 first-quarter points in his first game for the South Beach franchise.

Young and the Hawks had played on Monday evening, too, in a two-point home loss to the Sixers. Young played 35 minutes last night.

Young is considered the tentpole star-in-the-making for Atlanta — the centerpiece of their rebuild, which also includes young core players like John Collins, Kevin Huerter and their 2018 draft picks in De'Andre Hunter, Cam Reddish, and Bruno Fernando.

The 6-foot-2 floor general was averaging 34.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 9.0 assists in 36.0 minutes per game through three contests in the 2019-20 season. He was named the NBA Player of the Week in the Eastern Conference last week.
