The Miami Heat lost a close matchup to the Sacramento Kings on Friday 102-96. Following the game, future Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade received a flurry of applause from the sell-out crowd inside Golden 1 Center.

In what was likely Wade's final time playing against the Kings on their home floor, he posted 15 points on 6-of-14 shooting, with four rebounds, and four assists in over 26 minutes of action.

The Kings, who are a team predominantly made up of young assets, paid tribute to the future Hall of Famer.

Sacramento currently has just two players on its active roster who are age 30 or over – those being power forward Nemanja Bjelica (30) and the newly-acquired guard Corey Brewer (32).

Point being, plenty of these players grew up idolizing the three-time NBA champion — like Kings' Buddy Hield, for instance.

From James Ham of NBC Sports Bay Area:

“He’s a Hall of Famer, he’s a legend, he’s a hero,” Buddy Hield said. “He inspired many kids, from when I was a little boy. I can’t lie and say I wasn’t in the driveway shooting Dwyane Wade fadeaways and that rocker step he had and he’s always explosive. He won’t be forgotten.”

It appears that the feeling is mutual.

Wade gave Hield his shoe following the game, with a message to the 25-year-old shooting guard that read “To: Buddy, Loved watching you play since college. Keep going.”

The 13-time All-Star has averaged 22.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game over the course of his 16 years in the league.
