It has been a rather productive summer so far for the Charlotte Hornets. In this specific post, we're going to look at potential Hornets free agents, or — at the very least — guys the franchise must target.

After a disappointing end to their season, they have juiced the roster with more young talent through the draft by adding James Bouknight, Kai Jones, and a few other impressive second-round gems. They have also added a few key free agents, like Kelly Oubre and Ish Smith.

However, there are still some interesting names and here are three good ones that can help the Hornets win some games in the 2021-22 season.

Potential Hornets Free Agents

Josh Hart

Hart is still one of the best wings out there in free agency. He is only 26 years old and has shown that he is a capable 3&D guy when he is locked in. After a couple of stints with the Lakers and the Pelicans, Charlotte could be the perfect fit for him.

Charlotte already has a nice mixture of veterans and young talent on the roster. Adding Hart to the mix will only help deepen the rotations with a guy that is capable of fitting into almost any system. He does not demand the ball and would be a perfect plug-in guy for head coach James Borrego to use when needed.

It is actually crazy that more teams did not pounce on a chance to grab him sooner.

Lauri Markkanen

This is probably the best fit for the Hornets than anyone else on this list.

Markkanen is a restricted free agent, but he has no desire to go back to Chicago and wants to get a fresh start to his career elsewhere. Dallas has emerged as one of the front runners to sign him, but Charlotte should double down on snagging him to turn him into the Hornets' big man of the future.

His offensive game fits the way the game is played today as a stretch four, shooting a little over 40 percent in the 2020-21 season. He does struggle defensively, but he is only 25, so he still has plenty of upside.

Pair him with a great young playmaker like LaMelo Ball and we could see him have a breakout year if he does land in Buzz city. Could be one of the best young duos in the league if Michael Jordan can pull this off. Despite being restricted, he could be a key Hornets free agent to snag.

DeMarcus Cousins

We all know this list would not be a list without a wildcard that is questionable or controversial. Cousins has struggled to find his rhythm for the past few years after piling up injury after injury, but this might be well worth the risk.

Boogie was the best center in the league once upon a time and that player could still be within him somewhere. If you are saying, “Why didn't he show that with the Clippers or Warriors,” it's because those systems were not right for him to find his rhythm. Charlotte won't try to force Boogie to be the focal point of the offense, but they will feed him the ball in situations he is likely to do well in. It might be well worth the risk to make him a potential Hornets free agent target.

All three guys can help improve the roster immediately. The Hornets lost Devonte' Graham, Malik Monk, Cody Zeller, and Bismack Biyombo all to free agency. Picking up any of these guys will help fill out their roster and push this team closer to the playoffs. It is all about putting guys around LaMelo Ball. Players who will help make his job easier and all three can do that. Other options who can help, but these three should be must-have for Charlotte and their young floor general.
