Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball was brought out of his seat after Miles Bridges' explosive dunk that is probably going to be considered the highlight of the day. Bridges sprinted from the 3-point line, ran straight to the paint and accelerated for a high-flying slam dunk on the face of Atlanta Hawks center Clint Capela.

Unfortunately, the Hornets didn’t get to close out the Hawks, to whom they lost to by four points 105-101 on Sunday. Ball has been out since March 20 due to a broken wrist, so the only way he can help his team right now is by sitting on the bench and cheering for the team.

Miles Bridges, for his part, has carried the load for the Hornets as he scored 23 points on Sunday in the losing effort.

The Hornets could possibly fall down the standings if they continue to lose. This was expected since Ball was ruled out, though the hope remains they can still make a playoff push. The team will go up against the defending champions Los Angeles Lakers (who are without their superstars) on Tuesday and Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday.

Before hurting his wrist, LaMelo Ball was the clear frontrunner to win this season’s Rookie of the Year award. He was averaging 15.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists—not too bad for a first-year player. Ball, who was chosen third in the 2020 draft, has gotten a lot of hype this season and rightfully so. The Hornets continue to be a fan-favorite to watch this season.

Their future is indeed going to be bright as Ball continues to develop and shine. It’ll be interesting to see how Charlotte builds around its potential franchise player in the next coming years.
