Michael Jordan, regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time, just donated $1.1 million to a high school in North Carolina, in his hometown.

Per Jackson Fuller of Star News Online, Laney athletic director Fred Lynch confirmed the news that Jordan would be donating $1.1 million to Laney High School.

“Contrary to popular belief, Michael is always thinking of us,” Lynch said. “People are surprised when stuff like this comes out, but we’re not surprised over here at Laney. It’s not always publicized, but it’s always a nice little gamechanger for Laney athletics.”

He added that half of the donation will go to the institution's athletic department. The other half, meanwhile, will go to any aspect of Laney High School. This is the second hefty donation by Michael Jordan in less than a year. The 56-year-old donated $2 million to recovery efforts in Wilmington in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence in September.

Apart from the money, the principal owner and chairman of the Charlotte Hornets also made a surprise visit in November when he delivered Thanksgiving meals at Lowe's story on South College Road. In addition, he donated $100,00 to the Boy and Girls Club along with new basketball shoes to some 100 children.

Amid achieving basketball immortality, Michael Jordan has never forgotten his roots. That is part of what made him the greatest basketball player of all time.
