By now, you know that Anthony Davis has asked for a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans. He didn't get one at the deadline, but he will almost surely get his wish this offseason when the Pelicans can take more time to field offers.

While Davis has taken some criticism for his trade demand, Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell feels that Davis has every right to want to play elsewhere, noting that people are allowed to leave their jobs outside of the sports world:

“I feel like players should be able to choose where they want to go,” said Mitchell, according to Andy Larsen of the Salt Lake Tribune. “People are going to have their disagreements, but at the end of the day, if you want to go to a different job, it's your choice, right? We play in front of millions of people, so it feels like it's judged differently. I don't feel like that's going to stop a guy like AD, stop him from doing what he wants. And I think we all owe him what he wants. It's his life, his choice, whether he did it at the time everyone wanted him to or the time he wanted to, you know what I mean?”

While I completely understand Mitchell's point, here is the problem with it: Davis is under contract. So, yes, while everyone can choose where they want to go, a person can't tell a business that he or she wants to leave if that person still has time remaining on their contract.

That being said, NBA contracts don't stop front offices from trading players, so there are a lot of angles we can approach this argument.
