Mike Conley has not gotten off to a great start with his new Utah Jazz club.

In six games, he is averaging just 13.2 points, 4.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals over 27.8 minutes per game while shooting 33.3 percent from the floor, 29.7 percent from three-point range and 81.8 percent from the free-throw line.

He has picked things up a bit over his last two contests, scoring 29 and 19 points, respectively, but his efficiency still leaves much to be desired.

If anyone knows Conley, it's Toronto Raptors big man Marc Gasol, as Conley and Gasol played together for years in Memphis.

Gasol is confident that his former teammate will get it right over the long haul:

“He knows it’s a long run. It’s a marathon not a sprint,” said Gasol, according to Eric Woodyard of ESPN. “I know he wants the best for the team. It might not work right away, but they’ll be fine.”

Conley spent the first 12 seasons of his career with the Grizzlies and is coming off of a 2018-19 campaign in which he averaged a career-high 21.1 points to go along with 6.4 assists, 3.4 boards and 1.3 steals across 33.5 minutes a night while making 43.8 percent of his field-goal attempts, 36.4 percent of his long-distance tries and 84.5 percent of his foul shots.

The Jazz acquired Conley in a trade with the Grizzlies back in June, a deal that was viewed by many as one that would vault Utah into legitimate contender status in the rugged Western Conference.

The Jazz have gone 4-2 over their first six games and will take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday.
