According to a tweet from earlier this afternoon by the NFL Network's own Ian Rapoport, the New York Jets (5-10) have decided to place veteran running back Matt Forte on injured reserve with a nagging knee injury and he will not play in the team's Week 17 matchup against the New England Patriots.

This marks the end of an injury-plagued 2017 NFL season for Forte, who is in his 10th season in the league after he was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

In 12 games this season for the Jets, the banged-up Forte only rushed for 381 yards and two touchdowns on just 103 carries. However, Forte still managed to be a receiving threat out of the backfield as he hauled in 37 catches for 293 yards and one touchdown reception.

After the 32-year-old recently celebrated his birthday earlier this month, it is unclear as to exactly how much Forte has left in the tank. Even if he were to hang it up anytime soon, the two-time Pro Bowl running back has built up quite a resume for himself over the years.

In 146 career regular season games, Forte has rushed for 9,796 yards on 2,356 carries for 54 touchdowns on the ground. He has also caught 554 passes for 4,672 yards and 21 receiving touchdowns in his illustrious career.
