The New York Jets were able to fill a number of holes on their roster through free agency. However, it seems they were not done shoring up some quality depth to their linebacker corps.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Jets are expected to sign former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Patrick Onwuasor:

New York put an emphasis on fortifying their offensive line with the addition of center Connor McGovern, left tackle George Fant, and guard Greg Van Roten. They also addressed some needs on the defensive side of the ball by signing slot cornerback Brian Poole and cornerback Arthur Maulet.

Onwuasor will now join linebacker Neville Hewitt as the new faces of this group in New York. He signed with Baltimore as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2016 campaign and was able to etch out a role for himself as a backup and on special teams.

The Ravens have experienced plenty of turnover at inside linebacker over the years and this allowed Onwuasor to see plenty of action. He started to show plenty of promise with his versatile skill set in defending the run and the pass. The 27-year-old now finds himself in familiar territory alongside linebacker C.J. Mosley like he did to start his career.

Onwuasor finished the 2019 NFL season with 64 tackles, 3.0 sacks, and a forced fumble. He now appears to be primed for an elevated role as a potential starter for the Jets.
