Jamal Adams has requested a trade from the New York Jets and some people are wondering what led him to this point.

While he's been painted as the villain in this situation, ESPN's Rich Cimini points out that Adams is frustrated with New York's lack of communication in contract talks:

“While Adams looks like the bad guy because of his trade request and social media rants, which have irked team officials, the Jets aren't exactly innocent bystanders. Douglas has fueled the extension talk with public comments about how he wants to make Adams “a Jet for life,” yet he hasn't backed it up in talks with his agents, a source said. The Jets have frustrated Adams with what he perceives as a lack of communication, the source said.”

Earlier this offseason, Jets GM Joe Douglas exclaimed that New York would love to make Adams a ‘Jet for life'. Then, Douglas proceeded to say that the team would begin speaking to the All-Pro safety about an extension after the 2020 NFL Draft. However, it's apparent that Douglas and the Jets haven't held up their end of the bargain.

Even though Adams has two years remaining on his rookie contract, he's interested in signing long-term with New York. But for the Jets, they haven't shown any indication of locking up the versatile safety this offseason.

Therefore, he's called out the team's bluff and wants to continue his career elsewhere. Despite some people casting a certain image on Adams, it's apparent that New York has failed to handle his contract situation in a truthful manner.
